Oystercatchers

New Year's Eve, sunset is at its best around four o'clock in the afternoon; but wasn't where I wanted it to be... Walking back along the beach, picking up Devil's Toenails (fossilised shells), I came across this little group of oystercatchers that weren't too bothered about flying away.

The sun was going down behind and to the right, but without much cloud, it wasn't as spectacular as it was the night before. There was a bit of reflection on the other side, though, on the horizon; and also on the wet sand, giving it this strange pink effect.

Light was low, but ISO 400 with image stabilisation still did the job at a comfortable 1/60 - digital photography is wonderful.
