Along the cliffs to Marske: Go up the steps at Hazelgrove and follow the cliffs. The cliffs gradually get lower as you move away from Saltburn, but you'll find many hollows and gaps that are nice refuges from the wind, where you can just sit and watch the sea for hours on end. At Agar's Gap you can either turn left to Windy Hill Farm and return through Hazelgrove, or continue to Marske and walk back along the beach. And the Redcar blast furnace is always far enough away to not be a complete eyesore.

Along the cliffs to Skinningrove: Go up the steps at the Ship Inn and follow the cliffs all the way to Whitby if you like. Walk along the Cleveland Way and the Heritage Coast over some of the highest cliffs in England, hear an exaltation of skylarks, kittywakes nesting on the cliffs, cowslips and orchids, a Roman signal station that is no longer there, the Cleveland Ring, and much more.

![]() Sunrise |
North Sea Sunrise: Find a nice quiet spot on the cliffs (the corner at Hazelgrove is a good place), and wait for the sun to appear on the horizon. The clouds and sea fret can make it just about any shade of orange, red, yellow, pink or purple you might care to imagine.
